Black or White is an average emotional drama
Emotional dramas are meant to create an impact in the minds of audiences. But 'Black or White' fails in this attempt to create a mark in the hearts of viewers. The movie is not at all a classic nor a below average one. This Mike Binder directorial is an average film with some fine moments layered here and there. The movie hit the screens on January 30, 2015, and it is now recieving mixed to negative reviews from all corners.
“Black or White has more on its mind than your average family drama, but the film's approach to its thought-provoking themes too often lives down to its title”, reviewed Rotten Tomatoes consensus. As of now, the movie has a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 39%. The IMBD rating is 6.3/10.
The movie showcases the story of a grieving widower who is now engaged in a battle to win the custody of his grand daughter for whom he spent his whole life.
The film's story line is quite suitable for making an emotional drama. But the director literally failed to exploit this opportunity, and he made this movie in a very ordinary manner. The acting department which is headed by Kevin Costner and Octavia Spencer has done their roles in an impeccable manner.
The direction is just average, and the same is the case of screenplay. If it goes like this, the movie will fail to ring the money bells, and will emerge as just an average grosser.
